Broadreach

The Choreography Project #22

Led by Sibéal Davitt

CoisCéim Broadreach presented the 22nd Choreography Project, a creative and performance opportunity for adults to work with choreographer Sibéal Davitt from January-March 2025.

Over seven weeks Sibéal worked with dance enthusiasts with a strong sense of curiosity and an openness to bending genres within and beyond dance. The process was grounded in play, contemporary performance, physical dance and improvisation, with participants invited to engage with the notion of "everyday strangeness".

The project culminated with the co-creation of a short original dance performance, ÁIT AIT (A Weird Place)that was shared with audiences at The Great Hall at IMMA, Dublin, on the 8th of March 2025 through two sharings.

FROM SIBÉAL:

"I had the pleasure of working with a beautiful group of talented movers, all different and special in their own way. Their infectious energy has been a huge source of inspiration for this informal showing.

We began with the idea of everyday strangeness and the uncanny. I brought a few tools from my practice to get us started making movement material. As I work between the traditional and contemporary, we explored foundations in footwork, rhythm and improvisation as well as developing contemporary performance skills. We danced freely to traditional music and deconstructed céilí formations, making our own movement language.

I’m delighted to share this work in the beautiful Great Hall at IMMA. Once home to many social dances, this year’s Choreography Project participants will fill the space with joyous movement, making way for a musing of time, space and togetherness.

This informal showing is a mad and joyous crystallisation of our time spent in CoisCéim studio in Fairview. Thank you for joining."
