A CHORAL SONG & CONTEMPORARY DANCE PROJECT
FOR PEOPLE AGES 8 TO 80+
SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

Supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Grants in association with dlr LexIcon and Pavilion Theatre.

“a truly inspired model of public performance… at once ambitiously conceived and delightfully woven together…an inspirational moment of beauty and deep feeling which will stay with me forever” – audience member

The power, mystery and beauty of the sea, has long inspired artists of all creative disciplines.

Led by choreographer Philippa Donnellan and composer Denis Clohessy, SHORELINE invited people from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown to share their stories and experiences about the sea, and create an original performance in choral song, poetry, musical composition and contemporary dance.

SHORELINE began in October 2018 with the artists leading song and creative dance workshops for 3 groups: children from Gaelscoil na Fuinseoige, members of the Encore Voices Choir, and The Dance Ensemble, a specially established performance group for people aged 50+.

The project culminated in November with three sea-themed performances by over 60 participants, performing original choreography and choral song at dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.

“My childhood landscape was not land but the end of the land – the cold, salt, running hills of the Atlantic. I sometimes think my vision of the sea is the clearest thing I own.” - Sylvia Plath

MUSIC

For SHORELINE Denis Clohessy created the composition SAIL AWAY, which was performed by Encore Voices on 24 November.
