Máire was an Abbey Player from 1967-1999. She has appeared in over 150 productions at the Abbey Theatre. Among her favourites are The Loves of Cass McGuire, The Cherry Orchard, Famine, The Playboy of the Western World, The Hostage (Best Supporting Actress Evening Herald), A State of Chassis, The Plebians Rehearse the Uprising, Innish, Uncle Vanya, Finders Keepers (Irish Times Theatre Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress), Ulysses in Nighttown and April Bright. Television work includes Going into Exile, The Country Boy, Glenroe, O’Flaherty VC, Ballykissangel, The Loves of Cass McGuire, Mother Courage, The Hanging Gale (BBC and RTE), Z-cars and The Pallisers (BBC) and Ros na Rún (TG4). Film work includes The Fighting Prince of Donegal, Ulysses, Here are Ladies, Ar Dover Féin. 

Máire recently appeared in the Long Christmas Dinner at the Peacock Theatre and was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress by The Irish Times, 2022.
