A solo to salute the studio in Sackville Place

World Premiere | 30 June 2020

For almost 20 years, the studio we created on Sackville Place has been our home  – one that we are proud to have been able to share with so many.  Now the time has come to move on.

In this short solo, choreographer and director David Bolger dances with memories past, conducting the creative spirit and artistic atmospheres collected and held within its walls.  THE PARTING DANCE harnesses these physical memoirs in a final salute that recalls the joy that permeated the studio throughout the years.

Text from THE PARTING DANCE

Written by David Bolger

I’m here.
I’m with you.
Live.
Sackville Place.
An empty studio.

Twenty years ago we moved here.
We moved here and on the street outside –
A Hairdressers,
A Travel Agent,
A Polish Supermarket,
A Bookies,
A Shoe Mender,
A Public Library,
A College,
Two Public Houses,
And a Department Store,

Clery’s.

Under the Clock at Clery’s,
Under the watchful Clock,
Time passing,
Street Life passing,
Life passing,

Progression.

Outside the dance has changed.

No Holidays sold,
No shoes repaired,
No keys cut – while you wait,
No books borrowed,
No pints poured,
No bets are placed,
All bets are off.

Progression?

Progress.

Moving forward.
Moving onwards.

Onward.

I’m here.
I’m with you.

An Empty Hotel,
An Empty Bar,
An Empty Department store, its guts ripped out.

I’m live and I live high above street level.
Soaring with steps, laughter, tears, pain, joy, dancing.

Development advancing.

Develop.
