The Rite of Spring

No sequence is without resonance, with each nuanced movement exploring the nature of human behaviour or alluding to the harmony and disharmony of relationships

Taking his inspiration from the original ballet, Le Sacre du Printemps by Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky, David Bolger created a bold and vigorous choreography. Stravinsky’s score evoked the return of spring and man’s need to propitiate the earth by the sacrifice of a young girl who danced herself to death. Bolger’s interpretation is a visual metaphor of Stravinsky’s music set in the present day.

In essence, it was a directorial triumph for choreographer David Bolger who has created a contemporary cinematic equivalent of Stravinsky and Nijinsky’s original ballet. This is a highly polished production, with a heightened sense of visual theatre
