Dance with power and grace, connect, create and share the experience

Lee Clayden is one of the leading contemporary dancers and aerialists working in Ireland today. In this two hour Evening Class Special, Lee  will focus on varied relaxation movement techniques to open and expand your mind and body. 

You will learn simple exercises to build core muscular strength, to increase awareness of alignment and balance within the body, and to facilitate clear, movement articulation. Guided by Lee and working with others in the group you will share creative tasks to stimulate fresh choreographic possibilities, and to inspire deeper, authentic expression. 

SCHEDULE

This Evening Class Special is a one-off class and is recommended for people aged 18+ with minimum 1 year dance training.

About Lee Clayden

Lee started dancing at the age of 21 and graduated from London Contemporary Dance School with a 1st degree. He has guested with ENO, The Charnock Company, Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contempreano, Random Dance Company, Kerry Nicholls, Vincent Dance Theatre and Aletta Collins. When not dancing, Lee is often seen on the side of buildings performing aerial dance with Gravity and Levity and also running the set of Walk the Plank’s S.W.A.L.K as the messenger, amongst live pyrotechnics.

Film and TV credits include the THE WIZARD OF EARTHSEA, FINDING NEVERLAND, FRANKENSTEIN directed by Michael Howells and Mark Baldwin, JAGUAR CARS, THE RITE OF SPRING, MTV and TOP OF THE POPS.

Lee has been nominated twice for Outstanding Male by the Critics Choice Circle (2005 & 2007) and for the Time Out Live Awards in 2008. Lee performed as a dancer and aerialist in the West End show LORD OF THE RINGS. He is an associate artist and one of the main performers, teachers and riggers with Fidget Feet and has worked on their productions THE SECOND COMING, RAW, THE SNOW QUEEN, CATCH ME, HANG ON, FIREBIRDS, A FAIRIES’ TAIL and THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER. He danced with Walker Dance Park Music 2000-2007 performing THE 3 OF US, THE SELF, SILENCE OF THE SOUL, ESSENCE and 5-2-10.

In Ireland, Lee has also worked with David Bolger on DODGEMS for the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, BOXES (2009), FAUN (CoisCéim Dance Theatre) and the short film FLATBED (Speers Films); with Liz Roche on 12 MINUTE DANCES (Rex Levitates, Dublin Dance Festival) and MACBETH (Opera Ireland) and with Junk Ensemble on FIVE WAYS TO DROWN (Dublin Dance Festival).

Lee teaches, choreographs and devises on the floor and in the air regularly for various companies and dance establishments across the United Kingdom and internationally. He is a Gyrotonic PTCU and Vayu Aerial Yoga instructor – a technique founded from ‘Spiral360’ Lee‘s movement and bodywork studio and currently housed at the Irish Aerial Creation Centre. Recently in the UK Lee collaborated with Mad Dogs Dance Theatre over a 5 year period and in 2014 he started working with Company Chameleon in Manchester. He has danced internationally and in the UK in BEAUTY OF THE BEAST, OF MAN AND BEAST and HANDS DOWN.  This year, OF MAN AND BEAST will travel to Israel and Tarrega.

In 2018, credits to date include: HOGMANNAY 2018 with All Or Nothing Edinburgh; LIMERICK SCHOOL OF SPECTACLE hosted by Fidget Feet; WALK THE PLANK and Limerick City Council for St Patrick’s Day; research and development with Gravity and Levity on ORDINARY GRIEF; and Dance Oxford’s vertical dance piece on the Westgate Shopping Centre, Oxford. He is currently working with Philippa Donnellan on BODY OF WORK which premieres at AXIS, Ballymun in May 2018 as part of Dublin Dance Festival.
