Dying to Tell

Led by Muirne Bloomer

CREATIVE STEPS Youth Dance Group for AGES 15 – 25
JANUARY – MARCH and JUNE – JULY

Who would kill to achieve recognition? Who is dying for fame? Is being the centre of attention the be all and end all? Maybe you have secrets to reveal, confessions to make and lies to be detected. Watch your back because we are all part of the celebrity circus and everyone is DYING TO TELL

We were thrilled to welcome choreographer Muirne Bloomer to work with Creative Steps in their first major piece as the company’s newly formed youth group. Nineteen young people joined the group in order to expand their skills and experience in contemporary dance theatre and performance, to work with professional artists, and to collaborate with their peers.

Over several weeks, the group were put through their paces with Muirne – by taking part in a series of strenuous technique classes and stamina-busting physical exercises! They were also tasked to respond to the themes by coming up with their own choreography and contribute to creating the piece. Gradually the new work began to take shape. Intricate choreography fused with dramatic scenes and improvised action to create the final piece – the darkly humorous DYING TO TELL.

DYING TO TELL was first presented by Creative Steps to friends and family at an informal showing at CoisCéim studio, Dublin, before performances at other youth arts platforms including Irish Youth Dance Festival, Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire and Dance House youth dance event/Dance Ireland summer 2009.
