I particularly liked the Petula Clarke version of ‘Downtown.’ Music and lyrics are great for evoking feelings of freedom, light-heartedness and being carefree. No anxiety or cares. Also good for dancing and movement!

I loved being back in person with the group, some of whom I have been in CoisCéim classes with for 10 years or so but hadn’t really had conversations with them until this session in Fairview. We’d go for a cuppa across the road afterwards – and have great fun and conversation. Also we love Aoife’s enthusiasm!!

FAIRVIEW PARK
We’re all together in Fairview Park
Some may say it’s a bit of a lark
We’re the over fifties
And still very nifty
And can often be seen
Swinging out of a tree
Where only in Fairview Park
We have songbirds and dancers
And some high stepping prancers
All to be seen in Fairview Park
We sing and dance
It’s fun all the way
With some classical movements
To end our day
So why not come and join us
You know where to find us
All together in Fairview Park

THANK YOU SONG
Verse 1
Sun Comes Out
Sun Comes Out
Opening our hearts
Sun Comes Out
Sun Comes Out
Magic of the dance
You may feel out of sorts
But it makes things fun
Time stands still
Time stands still
Dancing through the years….
Chorus
Laughed almost cried
You as our guide
Sharing memories….
Verse 2
Thank you friends
Thank you friends
Dancing to the beat
Thank you friends
Thank you friends
Moving hands and feet
Together marching on
Singing our thank you song
Time stands still
Time stands still
Dancing through the years…..
Chorus
Laughed almost cried
You as our guide
Sharing memories….
Outro
La la la, la la la la la,
la la la la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la,
la la la la la la

Thank you for the Movement
One more step beneath the trees
Bend, Stretch, touch your knees.
Look up to the sky through the trees
See the clouds and feel the breeze
Listen to the leaves in the trees
Feel the energy as it releases in the breeze
Look down to the ground to see what’s found
Scuff the ground, see what’s found
Stretch your arms up in the air
Breath deep as if you didn’t care
Keep your sunny side up
Hide the side that’s blue
Kicking the leaves
Releases the tension
Collect the twigs, make a raft
Let it go in the middle of the stream
Point to the noisy skaters
Watch the children, hear the traffic go by
Hug a tree, give it a squeeze
Touch the ground and look around
Blow a kiss, Knock on wood,
Catch a falling star, catch a flower
Sprinkle magic dust.
Come together, keep your distance,
We can still dance.

I’m Valerie, I joined Songbird to alleviate some stresses post lockdown. Guess what – I have found new ones but have also found many positives being involved with Songbirds. It has been wonderful meeting everyone else . We have been hugely supported, encouraged and we as individuals have received clapping sessions which of course we did not expect.
Aoife has minded us, praised us in such a way which has been very positive despite our individual difficulties. Caoimhe has been a quiet, efficient, understanding and thoughtful organiser throughout. It has been an unforgettable experience and don’t laugh but I am looking forward to the weekend!
Thank you all for your tolerance and magnanimity.

Seven years ago when I retired, I started going to Coiscéim classes in Whitefriar street to dance. Very soon, Wednesday afternoons became one of my favourite times of the week. No matter how you were feeling when you went in there, you left feeling really good. The great music, the steps not always fully mastered, the laughter and the chat…..What a tonic! Philippa always mixing it up – an endless variety of moves and music.
Good for the body and the soul.
When the pandemic struck, Philippa and Coiscéim to the rescue again – with YouTube and Zoom classes and Guest Teachers from afar and new film projects to get involved in and keep our spirits up…. So thank you, Philippa. Thank you Coiscéim and Caoimhe. And welcome to Aoifeand all the new moves and music coming down the line!
The Songbirds experience has been unadulterated joy. Even the challenging parts were life-enhancing e.g. singing by yourself and hearing your own recorded voice. I was not sure at all about getting involved, I thought I might be out of my depth but I am so glad I did. Singing under the trees in Fairview Park was a particularly vivid experience . I was really stimulated too by the dancing, singing and writing Zoom sessions. I loved the camaraderie of our group and Aoife’s unstinting positive leadership and support.
