A Close Up by a Long Shot
Part of DIGITAL DANCES
20 April – 1 May, 2020
I’m ready for my close-up, medium shot by a long shot.
“In this postcard from home participants explored articulation of the body as the idea of home. Our wonderfully complex bodies as expressive landscapes framed in a portrait of readiness.
A close-up is a filmic term for framing a subject closely to highlight the nuance of emotions. A medium shot frames the subject and surroundings allowing greater movement. A long shot shows the subject from a distance emphasising location, place and a greater capacity for extensive movement. All within the familiar surroundings of our home.
In each session we shared ideas about home. How might that be shaped in the body as exploring the capabilities of the camera in capturing these ideas. Finally choreographing a short dance work, using the Close up, Medium shot and Long shot as our framing instructions and tasks.” – David Bolger
