The Choreography Project 13
Led by Philippa Donnellan
16 OCTOBER – 10 DECEMBER 2017
Armour
A mask, defensive shield or protective shell
or could it be …
a pretentious front, fake veneer?
a cheap façade or false affectation?
does this describe anyone you know?
or yourself?
and what lies behind it?
delicate flower, tormented soul, lost child
tired of being someone you’re not?
are you ready to show what you’re really made of?
This Choreography Project ARMOUR ran in parallel with the latest CoisCéim production BODY LANGUAGE directed by David Bolger. The project, designed to offer participatory opportunities for our dance audiences and the wider community, covered similar territory as the company’s production to explore the language of the body, and the physical armour and masks we so often wear.
Eighteen people signed up to participate in an intriguing and playful interdisciplinary process involving movement, costume, text, and the spoken word. Over the course of six weeks, much lively discussion and movement improvisation took place to help distil ideas and to encourage the creation of choreography.
The thirteenth Choreography Project culminated in 2 free performances of ARMOUR at The Complex, Dublin to a packed audience of friends, family and members of the public in December 2017.
