VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS WITH PHILIPPA DONNELLAN & OLWYN LYONS
APRIL – JULY 2020

As CoisCéim moved inside for Spring 2020, Philippa Donnellan and Olywn Lyons teamed up to deliver DANCE YOUR OWN DANCE – a virtual workshop series for children aged 6-10 that encourages people to explore choreography in a lively, fun and individual way. Beginning in April in partnership with The Ark and returning in July in collaboration with Dublin City Arts Office and Libraries as part of the Creative Hubs in Libraries Summer Programme – participants created inventive dance tales based on THE WOLF AND PETER, Alice in Wonderland and more – from their own homes!

TUTORIAL WITH OLWYN LYONS

As part of the International Dance Day Special, Olwyn Lyons created the following tutorial to run in parallel with the live workshop. Love the dances on TikTok? Now’s your chance to create your own! Join Olwyn on this online taster session that draws influences from urban and contemporary dance styles. Starting with a general warm up and stretch, Olwyn will then introduce you to some cool moves to uptempo beats that you can put together to Dance Your Own Dance!

CREATIVE HUBS IN LIBRARIES SUMMER PROGRAMME

INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY

WEDNESDAY 29 APRIL
11AM (AGES 8-9) & 12.30PM (AGES 10-11)
PART OF THE ARK @ HOME

In celebration of International Dance Day and in partnership with The Ark, we invited children aged 8-11 and their grown-ups to join us for an urban dance adventure with Olwyn Lyons.

WEDNESDAY 22 APRIL
11AM & 12.30PM
PART OF THE ARK @ HOME

Led by Philippa Donnellan, these colourful, themed sessions took 6-8 year olds on an absorbing creative dance journey in their own home. This fun physical adventure was based on THE WOLF AND PETER by David Bolger. Together, participants explored how Peter dances as he goes into the forest, did a quick change to become the scary Wolf (who is a super cool Street Dancer!) – and found out what actually happened to The Duck…

WEDNESDAY 15 APRIL
11AM & 12.30PM
PART OF THE ARK @ HOME

Philippa Donnellan led this colourful, themed dance story workshop for 6-8 year olds to enjoy participating in at home. In this workshop, participants headed to the beach with a few ‘seaside’ props to help set the scene. On arrival at their imaginary beach, they danced to some great tunes with the other participating children and made some amazing shapes, swam to the music and skip, hop, twist and turn to Dance Your Own Dance!
