ABOUT A CHOREOGRAPHIC TOOLBOX
WEEK 1 | STIMULUS AND THE IMAGINATION
How do we begin creating choreography? What inspires our ideas and how can this open the gates to play, experimentation and exploration? In Week 1 we will look at different material and how this can be used to STIMULATE the IMAGINATION and inspire choreographic invention.
WEEK 2 | THE BODY
Using THE BODY as the main tool for exploration, Week 2 looks at the infinite ways our body can move. Together, we will investigate aspects such as energy, dynamics, timing and effort – and how these might be employed to manipulate movement and alter essential qualities to create a more complex choreography.
WEEK 3 | MIND AND BODY
We will expand on the creative exploration undertaken in Week 2 to investigate the connection between MIND and BODY. Working with varied relaxation techniques to help focus the mind and develop concentrated physical practice, this session focuses on helping to bring a sense of clarity and ease to your dance performance.
WEEK 4 | COMPOSITION AND SPACE
How, why and where do we place choreography in space? Explore the relationship to SPACE, focusing on COMPOSITIONAL elements such as pattern, direction and level to develop greater awareness of the space around us and how to maximise this element within the creative process.
This week culminates by bringing together some of the ideas and elements explored over the entire series, giving time for informal presentation, reflection and lively celebration!
