ARMY ANTS was inspired by renowned actress Agnes Bernelle, and the cabaret/theatre world of 1930’s Berlin into which she was born. Set to music by Tom Waits ARMY ANTS combines Jazz, Contemporary Dance and physical theatre. The production of ARMY ANTS coincided with CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s production AGNES which portrayed the life and work of Agnes Bernelle and the enormous influence she had on the Irish theatre and cabaret scenes of the late 70’s and 80’s.

Led by BROADREACH Director and choreographer Philippa Donnellan, Creative Steps and The Dance Ensemble drew inspiration from cabaret/theatre artist Agnes Bernelle and renowned musician Tom Waits, in the creation of two dramatic dance theatre pieces. Both groups presented their work at the beginning of two of the performances by CoisCéim Dance Theatre at Project Arts Centre in March 2014 as part of the Parallel Programme Curtain Raisers for CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s production of AGNES.

Creative Steps took part in the Longford Dance Festival, performing alongside young people and adults at Backstage Theatre. They also took part in Contemporary and Ballet Master classes at Shawbrook School of Dance in Legan.
